Michelle's Journey Weaning her Cow Milk Sensitive Son with Kabrita

Every parent’s feeding experience is as unique as their baby. While the journey may be easy for some, others may struggle. Real Parent Story is a series on our blog where we ask real parents to share their feeding stories. Whether you’re expecting or already have little one, we hope these stories can offer you insight into what worked (or didn’t work) for parents just like you.

Today we're sharing Michelle's story

By Michelle Peters

I knew early on that my son Austin was sensitive to cow milk – he’s sensitive to many foods and when he was an infant and I was breastfeeding, he had a strong reaction when I consumed cow milk dairy.

I remember once after I treated myself to a chai latte, he reacted horribly. His cradle cap got worse and eczema flared up on the backs of his knees. Anytime I consumed cow milk dairy, he would have a lot of mucus and phlegm, vomiting and had awful bowel movements for days.

When I started weaning my son and introducing solid foods we discovered he was sensitive to cow dairy, wheat, eggs, tomato, bell peppers, peanuts, walnuts, tomato, mango… and a couple others I can’t recall. I had heard about Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula from my naturopath and knowing that goat milk can be a solution for people with cow milk sensitivity, I sought it out.

Because I pumped, Austin was used to bottles, so he didn’t blink when I introduced Kabrita. I was introducing solid foods one at a time because of his food sensitivities, so it was reassuring to have him get nutrition his system could handle.

To start with, I gave him 4oz a day, then over the next few weeks increased it so he was having Kabrita Goat Milk Toddler Formula during the day and breastfeeding in the morning and at bedtime only. While some of the deeper rashes caused by his food sensitivities took a few weeks to clear up, his cradle cap and bowel movements returned to normal quickly within days.

By the time I was ready to stop breastfeeding, I was confident in using Kabrita exclusively. I don’t know what I would have done without it. I know it’s as close as possible to breast milk and it was a huge relief that he was getting minerals and protein from a good source.

Today, Austin is approaching two and is a healthy, active little boy. He’s getting more of his nutrients than ever through food, but still has Kabrita after naps and before bed. I was so grateful to Kabrita for providing him with balanced nutrition his sensitive system could handle this past year. It really was a lifesaver!
