Trent Hendricks and his wife Rachel are passionate about animal welfare and sustainable farming and they and their six children just love goats!
KABRITA: What inspired you to become a goat dairy farmer?
Trent Hendricks: Goats have a personality like none other. We have cows, chickens and all kinds of animals on the farm, but the human-like personality of the goats make them a real pleasure to be around. They’re not intimidated by us, nor are we intimidated by them. They are friendly, rambunctious and very easy-going with the whole family.
K: What are the benefits of goat milk?
TH: Goat milk is closer to human milk than cow milk. It has a chemical make up that is more similar to human milk, making it is easier to digest and assimilate.
K: What’s the biggest misconception you find people have about goat milk?
TH: Taste is one of the big misconceptions goat farmers face. People are very pleasantly surprised by the mild taste of our goat milk when they try it.
K: What do you love most about the goat milk business?
TH: It would have to be the problem solving and making the operations better. My wife and I feel there are right ways to operate, and good and better ways of raising animals. I often look to the goats for what works. What’s best for the goat is, by and large, best for the farm. We’re always looking at how we can make our product better, and our environment safer and cleaner. Ultimately we do what we can to make the farm most enjoyable for our children and the animals.
K: What do you do to raise your animals organically and free from GMOs and hormones?
TH: We are certified organic, American Grassfed Certified, and Non-GMO Project Verified. We pride ourselves on these standards. We are big believers in whole foods, and practicing organic principles. We collect as much water at our farm from natural sources as we can, in order to operate our farm cleanly and recycle as much as possible.
K: Can I come pet the goats sometime?
TH: Yes, of course! Although our location is in the middle of nowhere, we can definitely make accommodations. People are welcome to come check out the farm anytime!
